Hope-Service-Plate-Worcester c.1790

Lavish ‘Hope Service’ plate by Flight Worcester, c.1790

A superb example from the amazing ‘Hope Service’, commissioned by the Duke of Clarence in 1789, each of the nearly 300 pieces having a different depiction of ‘Hope’ with her anchor & distant ship. John Pennington was the best painter at the Flight factory, and he was responsible for all these scenes – completing the task in just over a year.

We’re thrilled to offer this example for sale, in superb condition. On the reverse is a incorrect hand written note stating that it was made for Lord Nelson…..

This is the actual example illustrated in John Sandon’s ‘The Dictionary of Worcester Porcelain 1751-1851’ , page 107.
